China has started manufacturing its own immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines, a critical chipmaking tool previously dominated by Dutch company ASML. These machines are expected to be delivered to major Chinese chipmakers like Semiconductor
Manufacturing International Corp and Hua Hong Semiconductor. While this development could challenge ASML's dominance in China, the new machines still lag in performance and reliability. Initial production will be limited, with plans to produce about five machines this year and 20 by 2027.
