What's Happening?
In anticipation of World Food Safety Day 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is set to host a webinar on June 16, 2026, to introduce its new Risk-based Inspection Resource Kit. This initiative aims to enhance food safety
by providing practical approaches to strengthen risk-based food inspection programs. The webinar will focus on how these systems can optimize resource use, improve public health protection, and enhance national food control systems. Experts from various countries will share their experiences in implementing risk-based inspection programs, discussing challenges and lessons learned. The event is targeted at food safety authorities, public health officials, and other stakeholders involved in food safety and public health.
Why It's Important?
Foodborne diseases remain a significant global public health concern, necessitating robust food control systems. The FAO's new resource kit represents a critical step towards improving food safety by enabling more effective and targeted inspections. By prioritizing inspections based on risk, authorities can better allocate resources and focus on areas with the highest public health impact. This approach not only enhances food safety but also supports the development of more resilient and sustainable food systems. The webinar provides an opportunity for stakeholders to learn from international experiences and apply best practices in their own contexts, ultimately contributing to global efforts to ensure safe food for all.
