What's Happening?
McDonald's Canada is planning to establish a new restaurant at 698 Eckhardt Ave. West in Penticton. The proposal will be reviewed by the Penticton City Council on October 21. The site, currently owned by Petro Canada, is located at the corner of Eckhardt Avenue
and Railway Street, across from a Chevron gas station. The development requires rezoning the 0.3-hectare property from General Industrial to General Commercial. If approved, the new McDonald's will feature a two-lane drive-thru, 29 parking spaces, and a loading area, covering 376 square meters. This would be the third McDonald's in Penticton, joining existing locations on Main Street and inside a Walmart on Green Avenue.
Why It's Important?
The proposed McDonald's location is significant for Penticton's local economy and community. The development promises to create 60 new jobs, along with additional employment opportunities during the construction phase. This aligns with the city's economic development goals by transforming a vacant gravel lot into a vibrant commercial space. The new restaurant is expected to enhance the area's social and pedestrian environment, providing a new social gathering spot for residents. The project reflects McDonald's ongoing expansion strategy and its potential to stimulate local economic growth.
What's Next?
The Penticton City Council will decide on the rezoning application during their meeting on October 21. If the proposal is approved, the development will proceed to a public hearing on November 4. The outcome of these meetings will determine the project's future, including potential construction timelines and community engagement opportunities. Stakeholders, including local businesses and residents, may express their support or concerns during the public hearing, influencing the final decision.
