Conservationists have successfully revived the rare Fen Orchid, Liparis loeselii, which was previously on the brink of extinction in Britain. The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland's vascular plant
red list now indicates that the Fen Orchid is no longer considered under threat. This achievement is the result of collaborative efforts by Cambridge University Botanic Garden, Plantlife, and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, who have been working since 2008 to reintroduce and increase the number of Fen Orchids. The plant, which thrives in moist, mossy environments, had suffered due to habitat loss from drainage and abandonment of the fens. In 2010, the Fen Orchid was found at only three sites in East Anglia and one site in Wales. It has now been recorded at seven sites in England and three in Wales, with its population exceeding 10,000 individual plants.
