An elusive wild cat species, the flat-headed cat, has been rediscovered in Thailand after being feared extinct for three decades. Conservation authorities and the NGO Panthera announced the finding, which was made during an ecological survey using camera
traps in the Princess Sirindhorn Wildlife Sanctuary. The flat-headed cat, one of the world's most threatened wild felines, was detected 29 times during the survey. These cats are typically found in dense wetland ecosystems like peat swamps and freshwater mangroves, which are under threat due to land conversion and agricultural expansion. The last confirmed sighting in Thailand was in 1995. The survey's findings included footage of a female flat-headed cat with her cub, a rare and encouraging sign for the species.
