AeroVironment, Inc., through its subsidiary Telerob, has developed the TOM 50 RE, a compact uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) designed for military applications. The TOM 50 RE is engineered for mobile exploration, reconnaissance, explosive threat disposal,
and operational support for dismounted troops and specialist units such as SWAT teams. Unveiled at the Eurosatory 2026 defense and security exhibition in Paris, the UGV features a modular design that allows for the integration of various mission payloads, including camera packages and disruptors. It is equipped with high-resolution cameras providing 360-degree awareness and an internet protocol-mesh radio architecture for resilient communication links. The TOM 50 RE can also act as a mobile repeater to extend connectivity in complex terrains. Its onboard simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) capability enables it to generate maps of interior spaces where GPS is unavailable, enhancing situational awareness and mission planning.
