Japan is advancing its national strategy for physical artificial intelligence (AI) through a government-backed initiative aimed at enhancing industrial automation and AI development. This strategy includes the establishment of what is described as the world's
first national AI infrastructure dedicated to physical AI. The initiative, announced at Nvidia's AI conference in Japan, involves collaborations with domestic manufacturers and robotics companies. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is supporting the FRONTia Project, which aims to develop multimodal foundation models for robotics and physical AI. This project will utilize an AI factory built by Noetra Corp. as its computing platform. The strategy is part of Japan's broader AI Robotics Strategy, which seeks to capture over 30 percent of the global AI robotics market by 2040.
