What's Happening?
In California, the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has partnered with Raley's Food For Families program to address food insecurity during National Dairy Month. This collaboration, now in its fourth year, involves matching customer donations dollar-for-dollar,
up to $35,000, to supply dairy products to feeding programs. The initiative aims to provide nutritious dairy foods to over 1.8 million households facing food insecurity in California. The partnership emphasizes the importance of dairy in maintaining a healthy diet and supports food banks across the state, including major ones like the Alameda County Community Food Bank and the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.
Why It's Important?
This partnership highlights the critical role of public-private collaborations in addressing food insecurity, a persistent issue even in agriculturally rich states like California. By focusing on dairy, the initiative not only provides essential nutrition but also supports local dairy farmers. The program's success could serve as a model for similar initiatives nationwide, demonstrating how targeted efforts can effectively address nutritional gaps in vulnerable communities. The involvement of major food banks ensures that the aid reaches those most in need, potentially improving health outcomes for many families.
