What's Happening?
United Way of Marathon County is hosting a free training session on April 15 to teach residents how to manage volunteers during disasters. The Volunteer Reception Center training will take place at the Marathon County Emergency Management office in Wausau.
Participants will learn how to screen and process volunteers and will engage in a mock disaster exercise to practice key roles in volunteer management. Those who complete the training will be invited to join the Marathon County Volunteer Reception Center team, which coordinates volunteer efforts during emergencies.
Why It's Important?
Effective volunteer coordination is crucial during disasters, as it ensures that resources are utilized efficiently and that affected communities receive timely assistance. By training residents in volunteer management, Marathon County is enhancing its disaster response capabilities, which can lead to more organized and effective relief efforts. This initiative empowers local communities to be better prepared for emergencies, fostering resilience and collaboration among residents. It also highlights the importance of community involvement in disaster preparedness and response.
