What's Happening?
The DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys team has unveiled the largest-ever 2D map of the Universe, covering 75% of the sky and cataloging nearly four billion celestial objects. This 5.6-trillion-pixel map includes stars, galaxies, black holes, and asteroids,
and is publicly accessible through the Legacy Survey Sky Viewer. The map was created using data from three major sky surveys and is expected to remain the most comprehensive 2D map for years. It serves as a foundation for the largest 3D map of the Universe, aiding in the study of dark matter and dark energy.
