What's Happening?
Technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply equipment for a power plant at the Oko West Gold Project, a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. The project is located approximately 95 km west of
Georgetown in a remote region with challenging tropical conditions. Wärtsilä's engines were selected for their reliability in high ambient temperatures and limited water supplies. The order was placed by GMIN Ventures Guyana Inc, a subsidiary of Canada-based G Mining Ventures. The power plant will feature six Wärtsilä 32 engines, providing 56MW of power necessary for maintaining the mine's production. The project is expected to create around 1500 jobs for local communities.
