Openreach, a division of UK operator BT, is trialing a new system that uses its fiber broadband network to detect water leaks. The system employs distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) technology, which transforms fiber cables into sensors capable of detecting
leaks in water pipes. The trial, conducted in collaboration with Affinity Water, has successfully prevented the loss of 2 megaliters of water over three months.
