David Wayne Fox, the retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Northern Trust Corporation, passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 94 in Sea Island, Georgia. Fox, who was born in Aurora,
Illinois, had a distinguished career in finance and was known for his leadership at Northern Trust, where he served as CEO from 1989 and Chairman from 1990. His tenure was marked by significant expansion and technological advancements within the company. Fox was also a dedicated Marine Corps officer, serving from 1953 to 1955 and continuing in the reserves until the 1970s, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was deeply involved in civic and philanthropic activities, serving on numerous boards and establishing scholarships for military veterans and undergraduates. Fox is survived by his wife, Mary 'Mike', their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for April 10th in Western Springs, Illinois.
