The Tasmanian Government is working on a new long-term strategy for agriculture aimed at enhancing farm profitability, productivity, and competitiveness. Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, has been engaging with key industry stakeholders
to outline the priorities for this strategy. The initiative is part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, which seeks to support the agriculture sector's growth. The strategy aims to build on the sector's current success, which has seen sustained growth over the past 15 years, with a current farmgate value of over $2.8 billion. The ultimate goal is to achieve a $10 billion annual farmgate value by 2050. A draft of the strategy will be released for public consultation in the coming months.
Why It's Important?

The initiative could lead to increased investment in agriculture, job creation, and enhanced food security. Achieving the $10 billion target would significantly boost the state's economic output and position Tasmania as a leader in sustainable agricultural practices.
