Brown University has allocated $3 million in workforce development grants to the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) and Building Futures. This initiative is part of a $50 million commitment over
ten years to enhance workforce development in Rhode Island, following a voluntary resolution agreement with the federal government. The grants aim to launch a bilingual early-childhood educator certificate program at CCRI and expand apprenticeship and training programs across various sectors through Building Futures. The program at CCRI is designed to address the demand for bilingual educators and aims to add 180 new teachers to the Providence Public School District over the next three years. Building Futures will use the grant to scale programs for careers in construction and other high-demand sectors, supporting reintegration for formerly incarcerated individuals and meeting statewide labor demand.
