What's Happening?
The Town of Greenburgh Teen Task Force is conducting a Thanksgiving Food Drive from October 12th to November 2nd. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Hartsdale International Rotary, the Greenburgh Library, Good For Girls, and Irvington
High School. All donations collected during the drive will benefit Lifting Up Westchester, a non-profit organization located in White Plains. Drop-off boxes for contributions are conveniently located at the Greenburgh Library. The Teen Task Force, recognized by the Town Council for its exemplary community service, focuses on promoting awareness of disparities, engaging in civic activities, and fostering inclusivity within the Westchester community. Their projects have previously addressed food insecurity, mental health issues, and organized various drives for food, clothing, and toys, in addition to providing educational programs on cybersecurity and women's health through the Greenburgh Library.
Why It's Important?
This Thanksgiving Food Drive is important as it directly addresses food insecurity within the Westchester community, providing essential support to families in need during the holiday season. The collaboration between the Greenburgh Teen Task Force and various local organizations, including schools and Rotary clubs, highlights the power of community engagement in tackling social challenges. By collecting specific items like grocery store gift cards, rice, beans, pasta, and low-sodium canned goods, the drive aims to offer comprehensive assistance, allowing recipient families to maintain cultural customs and prepare traditional meals. This effort not only provides immediate relief but also fosters a sense of community responsibility and civic participation among young people, aligning with the Teen Task Force's mission to promote awareness and give back to the community.
What's Next?
The Thanksgiving Food Drive will continue to collect donations until November 2nd. Following the collection period, all donated items and grocery store gift cards will be delivered to Lifting Up Westchester in White Plains, which will then distribute them to families in need. The success of this drive will likely influence future community service initiatives by the Greenburgh Teen Task Force and its partners. The ongoing recognition from the Town Council for the Teen Task Force's efforts suggests continued support for their community-focused projects.
