What's Happening?
The Pakistan Martial Arts Association (PMAA), in collaboration with IFMSA-Pakistan's CMH Local Council, organized a self-defense workshop at CMH Lahore Medical College to honor the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy in Peshawar. The workshop aimed
to equip students from various medical disciplines with practical self-defense skills and situational awareness. Major General Prof. Dr. Salman Saleem (R) emphasized the importance of self-defense training in combating harassment and child abuse. PMAA Chief Trainer Anwar Mohiuddin highlighted martial arts as a tool to counter terrorism and prevent abuse. Participants received training in unarmed self-defense and gun disarmament techniques. The event was attended by PMAA's newly elected Chairman, Muhammad Shahzad Mughal, and prominent lawyers from Lahore High Court.
Why It's Important?
The workshop underscores the growing emphasis on self-defense education as a means of youth empowerment and societal resilience. By equipping young individuals with the skills to protect themselves, the initiative addresses critical issues such as harassment and child abuse. The collaboration between PMAA and IFMSA-Pakistan reflects a commitment to fostering a safer environment for students and the broader community. The focus on self-defense training also highlights the role of martial arts in promoting personal safety and confidence, which can have long-term benefits for participants. This initiative serves as a model for similar programs nationwide, aiming to create a more secure and empowered society.
