What's Happening?
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emphasized the importance of integrating technology into farming practices at the ongoing agricultural fair in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. The 'Unnat Krishi
Mela' serves as a platform for farmers to learn directly from scientists and experts about modern agricultural techniques. The event features over 300 stalls showcasing innovations in agriculture, horticulture, and food processing. Chouhan highlighted the need for farmers to diversify beyond traditional farming and adopt integrated farming systems to increase their income. The fair also includes technical sessions on various subjects, aiming to provide practical training to farmers.
Why It's Important?
The push for tech-driven farming is significant as it addresses the challenges faced by farmers in increasing productivity and sustainability. By connecting farmers with scientific knowledge and market opportunities, the initiative aims to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural sector. The focus on integrated farming and value addition through technology can lead to higher incomes and reduced environmental impact. This approach aligns with the government's efforts to modernize agriculture and ensure food security, making it a critical component of India's economic development strategy.
What's Next?
The fair will continue to offer training and demonstrations, with a focus on implementing state-specific agricultural roadmaps. These roadmaps will guide farmers on suitable crops and practices, tailored to the unique conditions of each region. The establishment of pulse processing mills and the government's commitment to procuring produce at Minimum Support Prices are expected to provide market support to farmers. The use of technology, such as the Mrida/eFARM application, will further assist farmers in managing soil health and reducing costs, ultimately leading to more sustainable and profitable farming practices.
