What's Happening?
At the 2026 Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) in Orlando, Mountain View High School Principal Kip Glazer presented an innovative internship program that emphasizes leadership development over technology proficiency. The program operates
through three pillars: on-campus tech support, community outreach, and technical projects, managed by student leaders. This structure aims to provide real-world experiences and leadership skills to students, regardless of their access to off-campus resources. Glazer highlighted the importance of communication and collaboration skills, which are foundational to leadership development, suggesting that these human capabilities will remain valuable as technology evolves.
Why It's Important?
This leadership-focused internship program addresses the equity challenge in career readiness by providing all students with opportunities to develop essential skills. By prioritizing leadership and soft skills over technical proficiency, the program prepares students for a future where human capabilities are increasingly important. This approach could influence educational practices nationwide, encouraging schools to integrate similar programs that focus on developing well-rounded leaders. As technology continues to change, the ability to adapt and lead will be crucial, making this program a potential model for future educational initiatives.
