What's Happening?
The Little Giant Fire, located approximately 30 miles northwest of Leavenworth, Washington, has grown significantly due to strong winds and low humidity. As of Saturday morning, the fire had burned 16,802 acres and was 0% contained. The fire, which began
on July 15 due to lightning, has created a large pyrocumulus cloud visible from Bainbridge Island to Seattle. Firefighters are actively working to contain the blaze, with 108 personnel, a dozer, grader, two masticators, two water tenders, and a hand crew assigned to the effort. Evacuations have been ordered, with a Level 3 'Go Now' evacuation in effect for Trinity in the Chiwawa River drainage and a Level 2 'Be Ready' evacuation extending to the junction of Chiwawa River Road and Big Meadows Road. Critical fire weather is expected to continue, with low humidity and wind gusts up to 25 mph forecasted.
