What's Happening?
Gardeners at the University of Cambridge successfully rescued Rory, a five-year-old golden and white tabby cat belonging to the chaplain of Peterhouse College, after he got stuck in a tree at Pembroke
College. Rory, known as an unofficial 'chaplain and support cat' to students, was spooked by two dogs belonging to the Pembroke master and retreated to the safety of the high branches. The rescue operation was captured on video, showing a gardener climbing a ladder while another hummed the theme from the Mission Impossible franchise. Rory, who lives with Reverend Jennifer Adams-Massmann, is popular among students and has his own Instagram account where he shares encouraging messages.
Why It's Important?
Rory's role as a support cat highlights the importance of animal companionship in educational settings, providing emotional support and stress relief to students. His presence at Peterhouse College is part of a broader trend of using animals to improve mental health and well-being in academic environments. The rescue operation underscores the community spirit and cooperation within the university, as staff members from different colleges came together to ensure Rory's safety. This incident also draws attention to the unique ways in which animals can become integral parts of campus life, fostering a sense of belonging and comfort among students.
