A Stanford Medicine-led clinical trial has shown that about a third of children with multiple food allergies can safely consume full servings of foods that typically trigger their allergies, thanks to the drug omalizumab. The trial, published in JAMA
Pediatrics, explored the efficacy of omalizumab, which inactivates antibodies responsible for allergic reactions. The study involved 117 children, all with peanut allergies and at least two other food allergies. Participants were treated with omalizumab alone or in combination with oral immunotherapy. The findings suggest that omalizumab alone allowed 36% of participants to tolerate full servings of three different allergy-triggering foods, compared to 19% in the combination group.
