What's Happening?
Comporium has extended its fiber network by 138 miles, reaching 1,255 locations across several rural counties in South Carolina. The expansion, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, aims to improve internet access in underserved areas. Comporium partnered
with the Town of Chesnee to install public Wi-Fi at Cada Park. This project is part of a broader effort to enhance broadband infrastructure in rural regions, addressing the digital divide and providing high-speed internet access to more communities.
Why It's Important?
Comporium's network expansion in South Carolina is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in rural areas. Improved internet access can enhance educational opportunities, economic development, and quality of life for residents in these regions. The project, supported by federal funding, demonstrates the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding broadband infrastructure. As more communities gain access to high-speed internet, they can participate more fully in the digital economy, benefiting from increased connectivity and access to online resources.
