What's Happening?
Ranchi recently held a special one-hour self-enumeration drive as part of the initial phase of the Census 2027. This digital self-enumeration process, which started on May 1 in Jharkhand, allows residents to submit household information online. The initiative
aims to increase public participation in the digital Census process. During the drive, officials and employees at various government offices completed their online self-enumeration. Assistance was also provided at panchayat secretariats and Anganwadi centers to facilitate the process. The self-enumeration phase will continue until May 15, followed by field operations from May 16 to June 14, where enumerators will collect information directly from households.
Why It's Important?
The digital self-enumeration drive is a crucial step in modernizing the Census process, making it more accessible and efficient. By encouraging online participation, the initiative aims to improve data accuracy and reduce the logistical challenges associated with traditional enumeration methods. This approach also reflects a broader trend towards digital governance, which can enhance transparency and citizen engagement. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for other regions, potentially influencing future Census operations across the country.
