What's Happening?
A district-level training program on millet production was held in Vijayawada under the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission. The event, chaired by NTR District Agriculture Officer DMF Vijaya Kumari, included participation from Agriculture Department
officials and field-level agricultural assistants. Experts highlighted the benefits of millets, which require less water and are resilient to adverse climatic conditions. The program aimed to promote integrated millet management practices to enhance productivity and sustainability, emphasizing the nutritional benefits of millets, which are rich in dietary fiber, protein, and essential minerals.
Why It's Important?
The promotion of millets is crucial for addressing food security and nutritional challenges, particularly in regions prone to water scarcity and climate variability. Millets offer a sustainable agricultural option due to their low water requirements and resilience, making them suitable for dryland farming. By enhancing millet production, the initiative supports the diversification of crops, contributing to agricultural sustainability and resilience. This focus on millets also aligns with broader efforts to improve nutritional security, as these grains are rich in essential nutrients.
