Swarm Aero, based in Oxnard, California, introduced its Gamera Group 5 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) on September 14 at the Air & Space Forces Association's Air, Space, and Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. The Gamera UAS is designed to
carry heavyweight, long-range missile payloads, including the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) and Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER). According to a company statement, the Gamera boasts a range of 9,000 nautical miles. Oliver Palmer, co-founder and chief revenue officer for Swarm Aero, stated that the company's thesis four years ago was to manufacture large aircraft of this class at a significantly lower cost while enabling them to carry substantial payloads. Swarm Aero has submitted the Gamera for the Air Force's Massed Modular Aircraft (MMA) program. The internal requirements for the Gamera included carrying an LRASM, operating from outside the second island chain to the Taiwan operating area, loitering for multiple hours, and returning without refueling, all while maintaining the lowest possible cost.
