Anduril Industries has announced plans to develop an autonomous tiltrotor aircraft, named Thunder, designed to accompany US Army helicopters on missions. The Thunder is a vertical-takeoff-and-landing rotorcraft that is heavily armed and hybrid-electric
powered. It is being developed in collaboration with Archer Aviation and is expected to have its first flight next year. The concept involves deploying multiple uncrewed tiltrotors alongside each crewed helicopter, significantly increasing available munitions without additional risk to pilots.
