What's Happening?
Ethiopian Airlines has initiated the construction of Bishoftu International Airport, a significant aviation infrastructure project located approximately 24.8 miles south of Addis Ababa. The groundbreaking
ceremony, held on January 10, was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior officials. The project aims to address Africa's infrastructure gap and support the African Continental Free Trade Area by enhancing regional and global connectivity. Phase One of the airport is expected to be completed by 2030, with a capacity to handle up to 60 million passengers annually. The second phase will expand terminal facilities to accommodate up to 110 million passengers per year. Additionally, the project will include an airport city with hotels, shopping centers, and recreational facilities.
