What's Happening?
Continental has announced plans to significantly increase the use of recycled and renewable materials in its tire production. The company aims to raise the share of these materials from 26% in 2024 to at least 40% within five years. This initiative includes
the use of recycled steel and polyester yarn made from recycled PET bottles, as well as COKOON adhesion technology for textile-rubber composites. The ContiRe.Tex technology, developed in partnership with OTIZ, converts PET bottles into polyester yarn, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 28%. Continental is committed to sustainable tire production without compromising safety or performance.
Why It's Important?
Continental's move towards more sustainable tire production reflects a broader industry trend towards environmental responsibility. By increasing the use of recycled materials, the company is reducing its carbon footprint and promoting circular economy principles. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also aligns with consumer demand for more sustainable products. As a major player in the automotive industry, Continental's actions could influence other manufacturers to adopt similar practices, leading to significant environmental benefits and advancements in sustainable manufacturing processes.
