Japan's IHI is exploring the addition of hyperspectral satellites from Finnish startup Kuva Space to its planned 100-satellite Earth observation constellation. The collaboration aims to enhance Japan's national security and dual-use applications by providing
advanced hyperspectral data. The agreement includes potential manufacturing of Kuva's Hyperfield-2 satellites in Japan, with orders expected in 2027. These satellites will improve the ability to identify materials by their spectral fingerprints and detect non-broadcasting vessels.
