What's Happening?
Emari Etta-Tawo, an Emergency Room Nurse at Emory University Hospital, has created a YouTube channel called 'Mini Med School with Nurse Dolly' to educate children about health and wellness. Motivated by the lack of kid-friendly health content, Etta-Tawo started
the channel in July 2025. The channel has quickly gained popularity, amassing nearly 23,000 subscribers in just eight months. Etta-Tawo covers topics such as handwashing, exercise, and nutrition, and is currently working on a series titled 'My Body is Amazing.' The channel has received positive feedback from parents who report that their children are more engaged and informed during medical visits.
Why It's Important?
The initiative by Etta-Tawo addresses a significant gap in children's educational content by focusing on health and wellness, areas often overlooked in favor of more traditional subjects like alphabets and colors. By providing accessible health education, the channel empowers children to understand and take charge of their health from a young age. This can lead to better health outcomes and increased health literacy among future generations. Additionally, the channel's success highlights the potential of digital platforms like YouTube to disseminate important educational content to a wide audience.
