What's Happening?
The Latino Community Foundation (LCF) has announced that its total grantmaking since 2018 has exceeded $50 million. This milestone reflects LCF's commitment to empowering Latino communities by supporting over 550 organizations and providing resources
to more than 120 nonprofit leaders. In the first quarter of 2026, LCF launched the Community Protection Fund, its first national fund, aimed at mobilizing resources for grassroots organizations responding to immigration enforcement actions. The fund awarded $250,000 to six organizations across Minnesota, California, and Nevada. Additionally, LCF invested $3 million to advance voter mobilization, support research on immigration enforcement's economic impact, and aid recovery efforts for communities affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
Why It's Important?
The Latino Community Foundation's efforts are crucial in addressing the underfunding of Latino-serving organizations, which receive less than 2% of philanthropic funding despite Latinos comprising nearly one-fifth of the U.S. population. By surpassing $50 million in grantmaking, LCF is not only meeting urgent needs but also building long-term power within Latino communities. This initiative is vital for fostering economic growth, political power, and cultural influence among Latinos, who are significant contributors to the U.S. economy and society. The foundation's national expansion and development of a $250 million endowment aim to ensure sustained investment in Latino communities.
What's Next?
LCF plans to continue its growth by expanding nationally and developing a $250 million endowment to close the funding gap for Latino communities. The foundation's ongoing efforts will focus on scaling its vision to ensure Latino families have the resources needed to thrive amidst economic instability and harmful immigration policies. LCF's commitment to investing in grassroots leadership is expected to drive a more inclusive and prosperous future for the country.
