Chester J. Potempa, a lifelong resident of San Pierre, Indiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on December 10, 2025. He died in his sleep at his family farm, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born on July 12, 1929, Chester was the youngest of nine children. He stayed home during World War II to help his parents run the family farm while his older brothers served in the military. Chester married Peggy Green in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1950 to 1959. He had a long career in truck transportation, working for Jack Gray Transport for 38 years until his retirement in 1994. Chester was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 142 and the American Legion Post 92. He is survived by his wife, five children, five grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Chester was known for his love of farming, gardening, and woodworking, particularly making custom birdhouses.

Visitation is scheduled for December 19, with a Catholic Rosary at 6:30 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on December 20 at All Saints Catholic Church in San Pierre, followed by a private interment at All Saints Catholic Cemetery. The community is expected to gather to pay their respects and celebrate Chester's life and contributions. His family will continue to honor his memory by maintaining the traditions and values he cherished.
