What's Happening?
Liberian journalist Nukanah Kollie, Bong County Coordinator and member of the Liberia Agricultural and Environmental Journalists Network (LAEJN), is representing Liberia at the 2025 IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Boot Camp and International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) World Congress in Nairobi, Kenya. Kollie, a senior reporter at Super Bongese Radio, joins nine other emerging agricultural journalists from around the world for leadership and multimedia training focused on storytelling, communication, and agricultural policy reporting. The congress, themed 'Feeding the Future: Innovations and Sustainability in African Agriculture,' will explore Kenya’s agricultural innovations through plenary sessions, field visits, and sustainability showcases.
Why It's Important?
Kollie's participation highlights Liberia's growing presence in global agricultural communication and underscores LAEJN's commitment to empowering journalists across Liberia. The event provides a platform for young journalists to enhance their skills and contribute to agricultural and environmental reporting in their countries. By participating in international forums, Liberian journalists can gain insights into global agricultural trends and innovations, which can be applied to local contexts to improve food security and sustainable development.
What's Next?
Upon his return, Kollie is expected to share his experiences with colleagues, mentor young journalists, and apply lessons learned to strengthen agricultural and environmental reporting in Liberia. The IFAJ/Alltech Young Leaders Boot Camp aims to develop leadership skills, promote cross-cultural understanding, and enhance storytelling excellence among agricultural journalists, providing full sponsorship for registration, accommodation, and meals.
Beyond the Headlines
The event emphasizes the importance of agricultural journalism in shaping public policy and promoting sustainable practices.
