The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in India is advancing the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the agricultural sector through the Digital Agriculture Mission. This initiative aims to improve farm productivity, pest management,
weather forecasting, and the delivery of government schemes. Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Mr. Ramnath Thakur, shared these developments in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The government is implementing advanced technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and IoT to modernize agriculture. Key initiatives include the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) for pest detection and the BharatVistaar platform for real-time agricultural support. These efforts have reached approximately 5.28 crore farmers, providing them with AI-based weather advisories and other digital services.
