What's Happening?
Students from kindergarten through college in a seven-county region of Western Kentucky are invited to participate in the Mental Health Art Contest. This initiative aims to promote mental health awareness through the theme 'Be Kind to Your Mind.' Participants
from Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster counties can submit original visual art pieces, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and poems. Each student is allowed one entry, which must be accompanied by a completed application form. The contest is organized by RiverValley Behavioral Health, and submissions can be mailed or delivered in person to their clinics. The deadline for entries is April 16, 2026.
Why It's Important?
The contest serves as a platform to raise awareness about mental health issues among young people, encouraging them to express their thoughts and emotions creatively. By engaging students in this initiative, the contest not only fosters artistic expression but also promotes mental well-being and reduces stigma associated with mental health challenges. The scholarships and awards offered provide additional motivation for participation, potentially impacting educational opportunities for the winners. Furthermore, the contest highlights the importance of community involvement in mental health advocacy, as schools and youth organizations are also recognized for their participation.
What's Next?
Following the submission deadline, entries will be evaluated, and winners will be announced. Each division winner will receive a $500 scholarship and a certificate, with a matching contribution to their school or youth organization. The organization with the most entries will be named Mental Health Partner of the Year and awarded $1,000. This recognition could encourage more schools and organizations to participate in future contests, further promoting mental health awareness in the community.
