What's Happening?
Georgia Power, in collaboration with the Atlanta Hawks, is continuing its HBCU Pathways program for the fourth consecutive year. This initiative is designed to support students from Historically Black
Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across Georgia by providing them with real-world experience and professional development opportunities. The program, which began in 2023, has already supported 21 students, many of whom have secured full-time positions in various sectors such as sports, entertainment, and corporate industries. The 10-week paid internship offers positions in departments like Brand Communications, Digital Marketing, and Event Operations. The application deadline for the 2025 cohort is January 16, 2026.
Why It's Important?
The HBCU Pathways program is significant as it addresses the need for increased representation and opportunities for Black students in professional fields. By partnering with the Atlanta Hawks, Georgia Power is not only investing in the future of these students but also contributing to the diversification of industries that have historically lacked minority representation. This initiative aligns with Georgia Power's broader commitment to supporting HBCUs, having donated over $5.5 million to related initiatives in Georgia. The program helps bridge the gap between education and employment, providing students with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in competitive job markets.
What's Next?
As the program continues, it is expected to expand its reach and impact, potentially increasing the number of internship spots and participating departments. The success of the program could inspire similar initiatives by other corporations, further enhancing career opportunities for HBCU students. Stakeholders, including educational institutions and corporate partners, may look to this program as a model for fostering diversity and inclusion within their own organizations.
