What's Happening?
The Batavia Farmers Market is set to open its mid-week edition for the season, starting Wednesday, June 10. Organized by the Batavia MainStreet group, the market will now be held at South Riverwalk Plaza on North Island Avenue and Houston Street, in front
of Batavia City Hall. This marks a change from its previous location along North River Street. The market will operate from 5 to 8 p.m. on select Wednesdays through August 5. The relocation aims to activate a different area of downtown Batavia and coincide with the Batavia Park District's River Rhapsody Concert Series. The market will feature 20 vendors offering fresh produce, farm-raised meats, cheeses, and ready-to-eat items. Special features on opening day include a 'build your own' gourmet salad bowl and a raffle for Downtown Dollars.
Why It's Important?
The relocation of the Batavia Farmers Market to South Riverwalk Plaza is significant for the local community as it aims to enhance downtown activity and provide a convenient shopping option for residents. By aligning the market with the River Rhapsody Concert Series, organizers hope to draw more visitors to the area, boosting local businesses and creating a vibrant community atmosphere. The market offers an opportunity for residents to purchase fresh, locally-sourced products mid-week, catering to those who may not be able to attend the larger Saturday market. This initiative supports local farmers and vendors, promoting sustainable practices and local economic growth.
What's Next?
As the market opens, organizers will monitor the transition to the new location and gather feedback from vendors and attendees. The success of the market could lead to further initiatives to activate other areas of downtown Batavia. The Batavia MainStreet group will continue to promote the market through social media, providing updates and special features to attract more visitors. The raffle and special offerings on opening day are expected to draw initial interest, and ongoing engagement with the community will be crucial for the market's continued success.
