What's Happening?
The 31st Annual Stuff A Bus Food Drive is currently underway in Rutland, Vermont, running from November 5th to 7th. This community initiative, organized by The Salvation Army in partnership with BROC Community Action and the Rutland Community Cupboard,
aims to address food insecurity throughout Rutland County. Residents are invited to donate nonperishable food items and monetary contributions at four Rutland-area supermarkets: Market 32 (Rutland Plaza and West Rutland), Hannaford (Green Mountain Plaza), and Grand Union (South Main Street). Buses provided by the Marble Valley Regional Transit District (MVRTD) are stationed at these locations to collect donations, and The Salvation Army's red kettles are also available for financial contributions.
Why It's Important?
The Stuff A Bus Food Drive plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Rutland County, especially as the holiday season approaches. Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for many communities, and initiatives like this provide essential resources to local food shelves. The collaborative effort between The Salvation Army, BROC Community Action, and the Rutland Community Cupboard demonstrates the power of community partnership in addressing social issues. The long-standing tradition of this event highlights its sustained impact and the ongoing need for such support, ensuring that residents have access to nutritious food during times of need.
What's Next?
The food drive will continue through November 7th, with collection points active at the designated supermarkets. Following the conclusion of the event, all collected nonperishable food and monetary donations will be distributed among the three participating organizations. These organizations will then utilize the resources to replenish their food shelves and provide assistance to individuals and families throughout the holiday season and beyond. The success of this year's drive will directly impact the ability of these organizations to meet the growing demand for food assistance in Rutland County.
