What's Happening?
The Genesee Valley BOCES and the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association (RTMA) are actively seeking 10 additional participants for their upcoming Pre-Apprenticeship Bootcamp. This workforce development initiative is designed to provide adults
with a direct pathway into advanced manufacturing careers through hands-on training and paid work experience. Scheduled to begin on July 6 at Genesee Valley BOCES in Batavia, the program is open to adults aged 18 and older who are interested in careers as electromechanical, electrical, and mechanical technicians. Participants will receive industry-focused training while earning a paycheck through paid co-op placements with local manufacturers. The program follows RTMA's 'earn while you learn' model, combining classroom instruction with on-the-job experience, and aims to address workforce shortages by equipping individuals with the necessary skills for high-demand careers.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant as it addresses the ongoing demand for skilled electromechanical technicians in the region. By providing a pathway to employment without the burden of student debt, the program supports economic growth and workforce development. Participants gain valuable technical skills and industry exposure, which can lead to employment opportunities with local manufacturers. The program also offers a pathway to New York State Registered Apprenticeships, further enhancing career prospects. This approach not only benefits individuals seeking stable and rewarding careers but also helps local manufacturers meet their staffing needs, thereby strengthening the regional economy.
What's Next?
As the start date approaches, interested individuals are encouraged to apply soon to secure one of the remaining 10 spots. The program organizers are working diligently to fill these openings before the bootcamp begins. Participants who complete the program will have the opportunity to explore New York State Registered Apprenticeships, potentially leading to long-term employment in the manufacturing sector. The success of this program could lead to similar initiatives in other regions, further addressing workforce shortages and supporting economic development.
