Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Saudi Ministry of Investment and the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) to explore the potential assembly of the Gokbey utility helicopter in Saudi Arabia.
This agreement, signed during the World Defense Show, aims to establish a local assembly line for the helicopter, along with maintenance, repair, and manufacturing of avionics, hydraulics, and cabin interiors. The Gokbey, a 6-metric-ton, twin-engine medium helicopter, is comparable to Leonardo's AW139 and Airbus' H160. The agreement also considers producing multiple variants of the rotorcraft, including civil, naval, and air force versions. This move is part of a broader strategy by Saudi Arabia to enhance its local defense manufacturing capabilities.
