Kyleigh Lock, a member of West Rusk FFA, has achieved a historic accomplishment by being named the Texas FFA State Winner and subsequently one of four National FFA Finalists in Diversified Livestock Production. This marks the first time a National Proficiency
finalist has emerged from West Rusk, signifying a significant milestone for both Lock and the West Rusk FFA program. Lock's agricultural journey began at a young age on her family's cattle ranch and evolved into a diverse agricultural enterprise, including her own herd of commercial and registered cattle, along with experience in multiple livestock species. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) encompasses market and breeding cattle, sheep, goats, swine, breeding rabbits, and poultry. Through managing this varied livestock program, Lock has expanded her knowledge in animal care, record-keeping, and preparing livestock for shows, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the agricultural industry. National FFA Proficiency Awards recognize members who demonstrate exceptional skills and accomplishments through their SAE programs, evaluating their knowledge, growth, and financial records within a specific agricultural area.

Kyleigh Lock will proceed with the national finalist interview process. Following this, she will attend the National FFA Convention in October, where she will be recognized on stage. During the convention, the final results of the National FFA Proficiency Award in Diversified Livestock Production will be announced, and she will also receive her American degree. Lock, currently a sophomore at West Texas A&M University majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine with double minors in Biology and Companion Animals, plans to continue her dedication to animals, agriculture, and service. Her ongoing journey is expected to inspire younger FFA members, demonstrating that success is built through commitment, hard work, and seizing learning opportunities.
