What's Happening?
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), through its Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR), has established the Nebraska Digital Ag Hub. This new initiative aims to help agricultural producers effectively utilize digital technologies.
Led by Tiffany Heng-Moss, Harlan Vice Chancellor for IANR, and Guillermo Balboa, interim director, the hub will focus on developing practical, technology-driven solutions tailored to the needs of agricultural producers. UNL currently supports over 40 digital agriculture programs, including precision irrigation, nitrogen management, robotics, automation, livestock technologies, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and data science. The university also offers a digital agriculture minor and operates the On-Farm Research Network, which has assisted producers in evaluating and adopting precision farming tools for over three decades. The hub was formed in response to discussions with university researchers and producers, where farmers expressed significant interest in digital agriculture but also highlighted challenges related to technology integration, data management, and understanding the return on investment.
