What's Happening?
Arca Climate Technologies Inc. and Giga Metals Corporation have entered into a 10-year agreement to explore carbon removal at the Turnagain Nickel Project in British Columbia. The agreement, signed on January 9, 2026, grants Arca exclusive rights to evaluate
the potential of ultramafic waste rock and mine tailings at the site for carbon dioxide removal. Arca will conduct various studies using its proprietary Industrial Mineralization technology, which accelerates the natural process of carbon mineralization, transforming atmospheric CO2 into stable solid minerals. Giga Metals estimates that the site will generate approximately 1.3 billion tonnes of ultramafic material, with the potential to remove up to 220 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. This initiative aligns with Canada's 2022 Critical Minerals Strategy, which prioritizes nickel production to support the energy transition.
