Thermo Fisher Scientific has addressed a significant security flaw in its Applied Biosystems human identification software. The flaw, identified as CVE-2026-17583, allowed for nearly undetectable tampering of DNA data files before analysis. The company
has released updates for five product lines, adding digital signatures to ensure data integrity. However, three older product lines will not receive updates due to their end-of-life status. The vulnerability was discovered by researchers in collaboration with the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Thermo Fisher has advised customers to implement the updates or adopt stringent data security measures.
