What's Happening?
The UK's meat and dairy export sales reached a record £4 billion ($5.39 billion) in 2025, according to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). Meat export sales increased by 12% to £2 billion, while dairy exports rose by nearly 17%
to £2.2 billion. The UK shipped 1.35 million tonnes of dairy products, marking a 9.1% increase from the previous year. Cheese and curd emerged as the largest export earners in the dairy sector, with sales reaching £971.2 million. The surge in exports reflects strong demand for UK dairy and red meat products across various markets. Imports of dairy products also grew, driven by higher cheese, curd, and yogurt shipments.
Why It's Important?
The record export figures underscore the UK's robust position in the global meat and dairy markets. The increase in export sales highlights the growing international demand for UK-produced dairy and meat products, contributing to the country's economic growth. The success of the dairy sector, particularly in cheese and curd exports, demonstrates the UK's ability to compete in international markets. The rise in imports, especially from New Zealand, indicates the impact of free-trade agreements on trade dynamics. The export growth supports the UK's agricultural industry, providing opportunities for expansion and investment in production capabilities.
