What's Happening?
David Woolridge, a 63-year-old grandfather from Peterborough, has been delighting families with his elaborate Christmas light display for the past eight years. This year, he spent £1,500 and four weeks
setting up the display at his Longthorpe home, which includes 47 Christmas trees, a golden tunnel of lights, and a six-foot reindeer. The display attracts hundreds of visitors annually and raises funds for the Sue Ryder charity, which provides palliative and bereavement support. Woolridge's efforts have raised over £20,000 for the charity, motivated by the care his father received at a Sue Ryder hospice.
Why It's Important?
Woolridge's light display is more than just a festive attraction; it serves as a significant fundraising effort for the Sue Ryder charity. By drawing visitors and donations, the display supports the charity's mission to provide essential care and support to those facing terminal illness and bereavement. This initiative highlights the power of community engagement and personal dedication in supporting charitable causes. It also brings joy and hope to families during the holiday season, offering a sense of continuity and community spirit in challenging times.
