Belgian Air Force Receives First F-35A Aircraft, Enhancing Military Capabilities

What's Happening?

The Belgian Air Force has received its first batch of Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. On October 7, four F-35As were delivered to the 1 Squadron at Florennes Air Base in Belgium. These aircraft were flown from the Fort Worth production facility in Texas, marking the beginning of in-country arrivals. Previously, the first eight aircraft were delivered to the Belgian F-35 Conversion Unit at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Belgium has contracted for 35 F-35As to be built in Fort Worth, with an additional 11 to be constructed at the Cameri final assembly and checkout facility in Italy. The F-35As are set to replace the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons, with a full transition expected by 2028.
