What's Happening?
Jay Bretzmann, program director for security products at IDC, has identified key signs that indicate a company's identity and access management (IAM) strategy may be failing. Despite decades of experience in developing IAM strategies, companies still face challenges, especially when upgrading their IAM platforms to handle modern IT deployments. One major issue is when legitimate users struggle to access applications while criminals find it easy to breach systems. According to the latest Verizon Data Breach Incident Report, stolen credentials were the most common attack method last year, involved in half of all breaches and over 80% of web application breaches.
Why It's Important?
The failure of IAM strategies can have significant implications for companies, particularly in terms of security and operational efficiency. As cyber threats continue to evolve, ensuring that IAM systems are robust and effective is crucial for protecting sensitive data and maintaining business continuity. Companies that fail to address IAM issues may face increased risks of data breaches, financial losses, and reputational damage. The insights provided by Bretzmann highlight the need for organizations to regularly assess and update their IAM strategies to keep pace with technological advancements and emerging threats.
