What's Happening?
4G Capital has partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the Catalytic First Loss Guarantee (CFLG) Program to enhance financing for Kenya's micro and small businesses, including women-owned enterprises. This partnership is part of
IFC's first CFLG transactions in Africa, alongside Equity Bank Kenya and KCB Bank Kenya. The initiative aims to catalyze approximately $144.4 million in local currency lending to microenterprises, women-owned businesses, and climate-focused enterprises. The CFLG Program provides first-loss coverage to partner financial institutions, leveraging blended finance through the International Development Association's Private Sector Window.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration is crucial for addressing the significant finance gap faced by MSMEs in Kenya, which account for a substantial portion of the country's economy. By providing first-loss coverage, the IFC reduces the financial risk for lenders, enabling them to extend more credit to underserved businesses. This initiative is expected to drive inclusive growth, create jobs, and support innovation, particularly benefiting women-owned businesses and climate-focused enterprises. The partnership reflects IFC's commitment to expanding access to finance through innovative digital financial services, contributing to sustainable economic development in Kenya.
